Artwork for Pipeline

I like to make collages around characters that I am performing or studying. It just helps me get into their minds and their worlds. I made one for Omari from Pipeline by Dominique Morriseau using some local murals from around the Over the Rhine neighborhood in Cincinnati! If you look below, you’ll the murals that I used in this piece as well as some artwork I edited. I printed all of this out, cut and pasted them onto a board. The shredded check is handmade from scrap paper, and the golden halo at the top and the golden chain at the bottom I made from paper plates. I really think shows Omari in more depth- how he feels, what’s inside him, and how other people see him. My favorite is the top, which is how his mother Nya sees him, and a small crown made of gem rocks to show his affinity for Earth Science as mentioned in the play. I also really like the gold chain that I added to the neck at the bottom as he glances upward, beyond his community, into the stars, but locked down.
